Smile! You’re On…
What kind of persona do you wear at work, with friends, with family — and even when you’re alone?
I’m not referring to roles or responsibilities, but the genuine you that lives quietly beneath it all.
During one of my morning walks, this brought a smile to my face. So often, as we move through the streets, we’re buried in our thoughts or glued to our mobile devices. But how often do we pause to truly look around us?
A smile can make a difference. You never know whose spirit you might lift that day. On my walks, I often pass fellow joggers and walkers, and we exchange a smile, a nod, or a simple “good morning”. Such a small gesture, yet such a lovely way to begin the day. To some, it may seem insignificant — just a greeting.
I once experienced this at a grocery store with my husband. A lady and I happened to exchange glances, and I smiled before going on my way. Later, we crossed paths again in another aisle. She approached me and shared that she had been feeling down earlier, and that simple smile had lifted her spirits. It opened the door for her to talk, and she began sharing about her family.
I share this not to boast, but as a reminder: what may feel like an ordinary moment to you can quietly impact someone else’s day. Acts of kindness don’t need loud announcements or grand gestures. Often, they matter most when no one is watching. Or perhaps they have always been there, waiting for us to notice.
