The Test of Time

To all the engineers out there - no offence intended, but…

The picture above never fails to amuse me. I still chuckle whenever I see it, and it has stayed deeply embedded in my mind.

In all honesty, I find myself marvelling at the work of our ancestors. They built things to last. They poured their hearts into what they created, and there is no doubt they worked tirelessly with the limited resources available to them at the time.

It’s often said that things are meant to get better as time goes on.

I disagree.

But what about technological advancement? Without question. But alongside it, many of us have grown increasingly disconnected in physical spaces and gatherings. Some time ago, I heard us described as the “kowtow generation”, where we are constantly bowed, not in reverence, but to our own devices.

So what has really changed?

Do the things we build and invest in today endure in the same way those of our ancestors did?

And more personally, what have you built and invested in your own life that is meant to last?

Will the things you invest in now stand the test of time, or will they simply crack under it?
