Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and a joyful New Year!

In recent weeks, I’ve come across articles and conversations expressing frustration over Christmas decorations in public spaces, with some questioning whether “this still feels like Christmas.” While these discussions often centre on appearances and traditions, they invite a deeper reflection for me: what is Christmas, at its heart?

For me, Christmas is an opportunity to pause and give thanks. It is a season to reflect on the blessings received, not only in moments of celebration, but also through the challenges and uncertainties of life.

In recent days, we have also been confronted with tragic news of natural disasters and the consequences of human failings that have led to the loss of lives and loved ones. In moments when sorrow feels heavy and hope seems dim, this season invites us to look for strength beyond circumstances. May we find peace to steady our hearts, and renewed hope to carry on, even when the way forward feels difficult.

At its core, Christmas is not simply about festivities, gatherings, or the exchange of gifts. It is a reminder to look beyond what is given, to the Giver. My faith anchors me in gratitude for the gift that was given, because without the Giver, there would be no gift at all. Jesus.

As the year draws to a close, may this Christmas offer each of us clarity, gratitude, and quiet strength. Wishing you and your loved ones a meaningful Christmas and a hopeful New Year.
