Before Common Sense

Who you become is shaped by what you consume from the world.

We often hear familiar phrases like you are what you eat, or your eyes are the windows to your soul. They remind us to be mindful of what we take in. Yet, we tend to focus only on what is visible or obvious, forgetting how much our everyday experiences influence us.

What we hear shapes our thoughts more than we realise. The words spoken around us, the tone of conversations, and the sounds we live with daily can quietly affect our mindset and emotions.

What we feel through touch matters too. A comforting hand, the tension we carry in our bodies, the textures and physical environments we interact with all leave an impression. Our sense of touch influences how safe, grounded, or unsettled we feel.

Even what we smell plays a role in our wellbeing shaping our mood and stress levels in subtle but powerful ways.

Growth is not only about what we do or achieve, but also about curating carefully what we let in.
