Pocket Read: Atomic Habits
I’m so glad I purchased Atomic Habits by James Clear. It resonated deeply with my heart and the season of life I’m in.
Having recently hit the big 4–0, I found myself reflecting on the way I’ve been living. Turning forty feels like standing at another crossroads — a moment to look back at what I’ve achieved so far, and to consider the journey that still lies ahead.
One of the ideas from Atomic Habits that stayed with me is that small habits, repeated daily, shape the direction of our lives. We often think change requires huge effort, but it’s really the tiny improvements that compound over time. It made me pause and ask myself: What habits am I building today that my future self will inherit?
Another thought that struck me was the idea that we don’t rise to the level of our goals; we fall to the level of our systems. It made me reflect on the routines and rhythms I’ve created for myself. Are they helping me grow into the person I want to become, or simply keeping me comfortable?
As I step into this new decade, I realise there are things I want to do more of in my life — not necessarily grand achievements, but intentional daily choices that shape who I am becoming.
So I ask myself gently: Am I content?
Or perhaps the better question is:
What small habits today will lead me toward a more meaningful tomorrow?
Because sometimes, the biggest life shifts don’t come from dramatic decisions but from the quiet, consistent habits we choose to keep.
