Are You Ok?
Have you ever had a random question or thought pop into your mind for no apparent reason, only to realise later that it might have been placed there to prepare you for what was coming next?
Earlier this week, while I was preparing breakfast, I had an empty bowl and a cup sitting in front of me. The plan was simple: yoghurt in the bowl and milk in the cup.
I opened the refrigerator to grab the milk when a thought suddenly crossed my mind, almost as if someone gently asked, “Are you okay?” Without much hesitation, I answered my own thoughts, “Yeah, I’m fine.” But if I’m being honest, the past two weeks had been quite trying (a story for another time).
Still caught in that moment of reflection, I poured the milk… straight into the bowl instead of the cup.
It didn’t take long for me to realise the little chaos I had created.
But in that small moment of chaos, I found something to be grateful for. Even in the midst of busy thoughts and challenging weeks, there was still space for a pause, for self-awareness, and even for a little humour.
Sometimes the mind wanders because it needs to check in with the heart. And sometimes a simple breakfast mishap is a gentle reminder to slow down, breathe, and acknowledge how we’re really doing.
So this Gratitude Friday, I’m thankful for the quiet moments that remind me to check in with myself — grateful for life’s small pauses that remind us to slow down and check in.
