Today’s Problem, Tomorrow’s Lifesaver
Growing up, we never wore gloves when washing dishes. Using our bare hands made it easier to feel whether a plate was still oily or sticky and needed another rinse. That habit stayed with me for years… even after I got married. Some things, however, never change — I’m still the human dishwasher. Ha.
Last year, I developed an infection on one of my fingers and started wearing gloves while doing the dishes. Since then, they’ve become a regular part of my routine. And honestly, they’ve turned out to be quite the lifesaver.
Recently, I noticed that one of the gloves kept feeling wet inside, though I couldn’t quite figure out why. I assumed some water must have seeped in while I was washing the dishes, since that side was closest to the tap. Now I know the reason — there was a small tear in the glove, likely from when I was washing a knife. If I hadn’t been wearing it, my thumb could easily have been cut.
So goodbye, my faithful pair of gloves. You’ve served me well and saved my hands, too.
It did take me a while to get used to washing dishes with gloves on, but today I’m thankful for that small change. What first felt unfamiliar turned out to be a quiet blessing in disguise. I thank God for the simple things that protect us in ways we don’t always expect. Who knew that a humble pair of gloves would one day come in so handy?
